EASTERN TEAMS FOR SATURDAY MATCHES AT OTAUTAU AND WYNDHAM The Eastern Southland senior cricket teams will play matches against Northern Southland at Wyndham and Cen-tral-Western at Otautau on Saturday. The Eastern teams have been announced by the sole selector (Mr W. Southern) as follows:— Eastern to play Central-Western at Otautau: O. B. Dey (Gore), M. O Shea (Gore), D. M. Dunnett (Celtic), L. G. Townsend (Mataura), D. Agnew (Celtic), J. Taylor (Celtic), N. Johnston (Mataura), W. Southern (Celtic), V. Stephens (Celtic), A. Webb (Mataura), and T. P. Bogue (Mataura). Eastern to play Northern, at Wyndham: C. R. Barron (Gore), G. McCall (Waikoikoi), O. J. Everson (Mataura), J. Currie (Gore), S. McKay (Wyndham), O. Traynor (Wyndham), A. Logan (Celtic), A. E. Mills (Tapanui), Collett (Tapanui), H. McConnell (Mataura), and G. Geddes (Mataura). MEETING OF SOUTHLAND EXECUTIVE The fortnightly meeting of . the executive of the Southland Cricket Association was held last evening, the president, Mr R. Taylor, presiding. After a report had been made by Mr H. Alabaster on the postponement of Saturday’s senior and junior A games because of the sodden state of some of the grounds, Mr G. Agnewsaid he was disappointed that the junior A games had not been played. These players paid big subscriptions and he thought clubs would suffer by the postponement of junior A fixtures. The following nominations of players available for the under 19 team to play Otago at Dunedin at Easter were received: A. Storrie and C. I. Overton (Union), J. Redpath, B. Clark, G. Agnew, K. Semmens and M. Potts (Old Boys), G. Hillstead, D. Hisson, A. Small and A. Caddie (Georgetown), G. H. Ward and L. Ward (Riverton). Mr Agnew remarked that the team sheets were coming in very poorly, some of them being incorrectly filled in. It was decided to write to the Appleby Club asking if certain players entered on its Junior B team sheet actually took part in the match against Waikiwi. It was decided to draw the attention of the Invercargill Club to the playing of an unregistered player. In addition to the chairman, there were present: Messrs J. S. Brass, G. Agnew, H. Alabaster, T. V. Mahoney, H. P. Fougere, E. G. Luzmoor, A. S. Hogg, F. McKenzie and A. J. Hamilton (secretary). FIXTURES FOR SATURDAY The following fixtures for Saturday were approved: Senior—Old Boys v. Invercargill at High School; Union v. Bluff at Marist School; Marist v. Appleby at Appleby ground. Junior A—Old Boys v. High School at High Schdol; Marist v. Union at Queen’s Park No. 1; Invercargill v. Railway at Biggar street east; Riverton v. Appleby at Queen’s Park No. 2. Junior B—lnvercargill v. Old Boys at High School; Kiwi v. Georgetown at Biggar street west; Borstal v. Appleby at Borstal. Third Grade—Kiwi v. Appleby at Queen’s Park No. 3; Marist v. High B at Marist School; Georgetown v. High A, at High School. N.S.W. TO PLAY REST OF AUSTRALIA (Received February 20, 7.30 p.m.) SYDNEY, February 20. The Australian Board of Control has agreed to a proposal for a cricket match between New South Wales (winner of the Sheffield Shield) and the Rest of Australia to be played at Sydney .early in March.
