GOOD RESPONSE MADE
MEN ANSWER CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS ENLISTMENTS FROM POSTAL DEPARTMENT (United Press Association) DUNEDIN. February 19. “To the call for volunteers for active service,” stated the Postmaster-General (the Hon. F. Jones) in an interview today, “the officers of the Post and Telegraph Department have responded well. Since the outbreak of war there have been 755 enlistments from within the service and today we have 524 officers serving with the forces while there are 176 more awaiting orders to proceed to camp. “With a few exceptions,” the Minister added, “no restrictions have been placed on the release of officers of 21 years of age and over who have volunteered for service overseas. Every effort is being made so to arrange the staffing of the department to provide for the maximum number possible being released in the future as the need continues.”
