WOODLANDS Mr and Mrs C. McGregor, Miss C. McGregor, and Mrs H. Brown, Palmerston, were the guests of Mrs M. Robertson, Mabel Bush, for the Centennial Royal Show at Invercargill. Mr and Mrs C. Wilson, Tawanui, are the guests of Mr and Mrs E. Black. Miss June McFadyen, Kamahi, is the guest of Miss J. Bedford. Mrs A. Phillips, Gore, was the weekend guest of Mrs R. E. Soper. BLUFF Mr and Mrs T. W. McDonald, Barrow street, and their young son, .are visiting Wellington for the Exhiibtion. Mrs G. Price, of Otapiri, was recently the guest of Mrs H. Jamieson, Liffey street. Mr and Mrs C. Cushion and their family, of Lyttelton, are visiting Mrs Cushion’s father, Mr T. W. Parry, Bann street. Mr and Mrs A. Lindquist, Liffey street. Mr and Mrs Aubrey, Cattle Flat, Pembroke, and their daughters, Misses Edna and Maisie Aubrey, are the guests of Mrs W. J. Unwin, Marine Parade, for show week. Misses Merle and Jean Edwards, of Balclutha. and Riverton, visited their parents, Mr and Mrs L. E. Edwards during the week-end. Miss Evelyn Cameron, Training College, Dunedin, is spending her annual vacation with her parents Mr and Mrs W. Cameron, Bann street. Mrs Mac Lean, of Clifton, is the guest of Mrs T. P. Driscoll, Barrow street. TAPANUI A “Cinderella” dance in aid of the funds of the Tapanui Tennis Club was held in the Masonic hall. Mrs G. Brooke supplied the music, and Mr S. Richardson was master of ceremonies. There was a good attendance and an enjoyable dance which will materially aid the funds. Mr and Mrs F. Herbert won the Monte Carlo. At the residence of Mrs W. Lischner on a recent afternoon, a /lift afternoon was held for Miss Mina McKee who is soon to be married. A treasure hunt and games kept all amused, and Mrs Lischner asked Miss McKee to accept a large number of gifts with the best wishes of her friends. Miss McKee returned thanks, and after afternoon tea Mrs J. A. McDonald thanked the hostesses, Mrs Lischnei and Miss M. Kerse. < Mrs E. McKee was hostess at a gift afternoon to Miss M. McKee, her niece, recently. During the afternoon Miss I. Revie sang, and there were also several competitions, and some musical items. Mrs Revie, sen., was the winner of the lucky cup. The guest of honour was presented with a bouquet, and Mrs W. D. Williams asked her to accept a well-filled basket of gifts. Mrs Williams said that during her six years’ residence in Tapanui, Miss McKee had made many friends, who regretted her departure and wished her happiness and prosperity in her new home. Mrs McDonald also spoke, after which Miss McKee thanked all for their kind remarks and gifts. Mr Malcolm Ferguson, in a humorous speech, thanked Mrs McKee for her many kindnesses to Miss McKee and himself, and for the use of her home that afternoon. On a recent evening, Miss Flora Pluck was entertained at a kitchen evening at the residence of Mrs David Kane, “Westholm,” Tapanui. Mrs R. Kirk sang solos, and there were several competitions. Before supper was served, Mrs Kerse presented to the future bride a well-filled basket of kitchen utensils from her friends, who all wished her much happiness. Miss F. Greaves, for the Tapanui Basketball Club, asked Miss Pluck to accept for Mr D. Potts, a set of military hair brushes, in appreciation of his kindness in conveying club members to matches. Miss Pluck returned thanks and gave an invitation to all to visit her in her new home.

The Glenkenich Junior Homemakers club held a garden party at the residence of Mrs D. Jenkins, “Meadowbank,” as the final meeting for the year. Two delegates gave their reports on the rally and on Karitane, and club members gave some interesting demonstrations. Miss McMillan, tutor, gave a short address, Mrs D. Coubrough sang a solo, and several competitions were held. Afternoon tea was served, after which Mrs Whitefield, on behalf of the club, thanked Mrs Jenkins for the use of her home. Mrs Chittock thanked the club members for an enjoyable afternoon.
