OPENING OF TENNIS CLUB The opening of the Orepuki Tennis Club took place in fine weather. The president (Mr J. Mason) in declaring the courts open, welcomed visitors from Pahia and Te Tua. He extended a special welcome to the young members just joining up with the club and said he hoped they would come along consistently. He was sure they would find that tiie senior members would at all times be only too willing to give them every possible encouragement. Details of the knock-out tournament were:—

First round.—Miss Corkery and A. Garden beat Miss Finlayson and R. Lee, 5-4; Miss Weir and P. Corkery beat Miss Lennon and V. Carroll, 5-0; Miss J. McPherson and R. Thompson beat Miss Johnston and T. Suddaby, 5-2; Miss E. McPherson and G. Suddaby beat Miss M. Corkery and P. Knowler, 5-2; Miss McLean and J. Mason beat Mrs Maginness and L. Suddaby, 5-1; Miss Finlayson and A. Church beat Miss Wrather and S. Dillon, 5-1; Miss Johnston and R. Lee beat Miss Lennon and R. Betteridge, 5-0.

Second round.—Miss Weir and P. Corkery beat Miss N. Corkery and A. Garden, 5-1; Miss E. McPherson and G. Suddaby beat Miss J. McPherson and R. Thompson, 5-2; Miss Finlayson and A. Church beat Miss McLean and J. Mason, 5-3. Third round.—Miss Johnston and R. Lee beat Miss Weir and P. Corkery, 5-4; Miss E. McPherson and G. Suddaby beat Miss Finlayson and A. Church, 5-1. Final.—Miss E. McPherson and G. Suddaby beat Miss Johnston and R. Lee, 5-3.

The president, in presenting a pair of tennis balls to the winners, congratulated them on their win.

An opportunity was also taken to bid farewell to a popular members, Mr L. Suddaby, who is leaving for camp in the North Island. Mr Mason spoke of the loss Mr Suddaby would be to the club. MINIATURE RIFLE SHOOTING In the Orepuki Miniature Rifle Club’s weekly shoot, T. Lachford secured the possible, 50. J. L. Mason secured the highest score off the rifle with 77.2. Scores off the rifle were: J. L. Mason 77.2, J. Munro 76.4, T. Latchford 76.2, O. Kelly 74, C. McKeown 71, T. Suddaby 69, A. D. Suddaby 68, O. Young 67, J. Cook 65, G. Brownidge 61, G. McLean 61. EUCHRE PARTY A big crowd attended the fortnightly euchre party, held in aid of Territorial Association funds. .Mrs McNay won the women’s first prize and Mrs G. Finn was second. Mr A. D. Suddaby and. Mr G. Ericson were successful in the men’s section. PERSONAL Mr J. Davies, proprietor of the Regent Theatre and his son are on a business visit to Wellington procuring equipment for their new theatre at Tuatapere. PADDY’S MARKET A successful paddy’s market was held in aid of the Plunket Society. A choice selection of goods met with a ready sale. Winners of the various competitions were:—Cushion, Miss D. Turnbull; box of chocolates, Russell Goold; mystery box, Mrs A. J. Bone; box of chocolates, Jean Hogg; tin of biscuits, Mrs J. Goold. As a result of the sale, the society will benefit to the extent of nearly £6. FAREWELL TO RECRUITS Members and supporters of the Territorial Regimental Sub-Association entertained Messrs J." Watson, W. Smith, E. Milliard, E. Skeggs, H. Harvey and L. Suddaby at a social evening before they left for military camp. A big crowd was present. The president (Mr E. Bone) in presenting each of the guests with a money belt and socks made by the Ladies’ Knitting Club, wished them good luck and a safe return. Messrs J. Mason, J. Brown, R. Lee, and C. McKeown spoke on behalf of the sporting bodies. Enjoyable items were given during the evening.

Mr F. H. Shepherd led community singing. Music for the dancing was supplied by Mr R. Mempes and extras were played by Misses J. Keady and L. Carroll. Mr R. Lee was master of ceremonies.
