VESSEL DELAYED BY ROUGH WEATHER
KAIMAI’S TRIP FROM WESTPORT (United Press Association) AUCKLAND, August 15. Another of the series of delays by the weather which have been affecting the ship this winter is now being experienced by the Westport Coal Company’s chartered steamer Kaimai. Bringing a full cargo of coal, she left Westport for Auckland on Thursday evening and it is doubtful whether she will reach port before next Thursday. In an attempt to avoid some of the very rough weather being experienced on the West Coast, the Kaimai took the unusual course of steaming through Cook Strait and up the east coast. The weather proved too severe, however, and advice from the steamer today stated that she was sheltering in Hicks Bay. No word of her departure had been received tonight. In the meantime, the Union Company's steamer Korowai which left Westport for Auckland on Saturday evening, two days after the Kaimai, arrived this morning. The Korowai took the customary route round North Cape and although very boisterous conditions were ruling on the West Coast a normal voyage was made.
