STREET ACCESS IN GEORGETOWN
SCHEME FOR PURCHASE OF SECTIONS Arrangements for the purchase or lease with right of purchase of sections in Georgetown to provide street access from Pomona street to Conyers street were reported to the Invercargill City Council last night. At previous meetings the difficulty of access to different parts of Georgetown because of, the awkward subdivision of the suburb was emphasized and the Mayor (Mr J. R. Hanan), the chairman of the Finance Committee (Cr F. A. Webb) and the town clerk (Mr W. F. Sturman) were empowered to enter into negotiations for the purchase of sections. The town clerk reported last night that arrangements had been made to acquire one section and to obtain a lease, with the right of purchase, of others which would enable additional street provision from Pomona street to Conyers street. The committee had been unable to reach finality in one section, but notice had been served on the owner that no building should be erected on the section as the land was required for street purposes and it would be recorded on the town-plan-ning map accordingly. Tire net cost of the land, after selling the surplus was estimated at approximately £520. Payment could be spread over three years. The Finance Committee expressed satisfaction that the negotiations had been successful.
