FATAL ACCIDENT AT SLOPE POINT

MAN KILLED BY FALL OF , GRAVEL

A single man named Bartholomew Thomas Conway, aged 45, a farmer living at Slope Point, was accidentally killed while working in a gravel quarry on Humphrey’s road, Tokanui, yesterday afternoon. He was shovelling gravel with his brother and another man named S. Wybrow into a lorry belonging to Wybrow, when the gravel face collapsed and crushed him against the lorry, killing him instantly. He was a well-known and popular resident of the district. He was a Justice of the Peace, and took an active interest in the affairs of the Haldane-Slope Point district and he was also a member of the Tokanui Medical Association. CHILD FATALLY SCALDED ACCIDENT AT WAIANIWA Fatal injuries were suffered by the two-year-old son of Mr and Mrs P. O’Donnell, of Waianiwa, who fell into a dish of hot water at 8 o’clock on Monday morning. He received medical attention soon after and was then admitted to the Southland Hospital, Kew, where he died at 11 o’clock the following night. An inquest will be held.
