NEW LINER FOR TASMAN?

Service To Be Run To Milford

RUMOUR MENTIONED TO HARBOUR BOARD

NO OTHER CALLS IN SOUTH ISLAND

The possibility that a new Tasman liner would be built shortly io run between Melbourne, Milford Sound and Wellington was mentioned at the meeting of the Bluff Harbour Board last night. Mr W. J. A. McGregor said it was rumoured that a new liner would be built and put into service between Melbourne, Milford Sound and Wellington. This vessel would replace the present service provided by theMaunganui and would cut out all South Island ports except Milford Sound after the road to Milford Sound was completed. , Sir Robert Anderson said he thought it probable that the service outlined by Mr McGregor would .eventually come into existence. Several members said that if such a service were to be introduced it was desirable that the Blackmount-Mana-pouri road should be completed to provide an alternative route for tourists to travel from Milford to Southland. It was decided to urge the completion of this road at the conference of members of Parliament to be convened next month by the Southland Progress League.
