TRAVELLING SCHOLAR ON HONEYMOON
ADVICE OF SUCCESS ON EVE OF MARRIAGE (United Press Association) AUCKLAND, March 15. A tour that is to be at once a honeymoon and the result of a signal success at Auckland University College is to be begun next Tuesday by Mr T. F. Haughey, of Auckland. On the eve of his marriage, which took place tonight, Mr Haughey received advice that he had been awarded the New Zealand University’s travelling scholarship in architecture, which will enable him to pursue post-graduate studies in his profession for two years overseas. _ Mr Haughey was married tonight to Miss Marjorie Pettit, MA, daughter of Dr W. H. Pettit, of Ponsonby road, and; also a graduate of the Auckland Uni- 1 versity College. On Tuesday Mr and Mrs Haughey will leave Auckland by the Niagara and will spend about six weeks in the United States before going on to England. Mr Haughey particularly wants to study the architectural side of the San Francisco International Exposition. In England Mr Haughey intends to follow in the footsteps of a previous holder of the scholarship, Mr R. H. Toy, also of Auckland, who is to lecture in architecture at Auckland University College when he returns to New Zealand. Mr Haughey, therefore, will advance a thesis for the degree of Master of Arts in Architecture at Liverpool University.
