USE OF INSTRUMENT ALLEGED
MARRIED WOMAN FOUND NOT GUILTY (United Press Association) WELLINGTON, February 6. The trial of Mary Wearne, aged 57, married, on a charge of unlawfully using an instrument with intent to procure a miscarriage, took place in the Supreme Court today. The jury after an hour and 10 minutes’ retirement, decided there was an element of doubt and returned a verdict of not guilty. Points made by the counsel for the accused were that the principal witness was an accomplice if what she said was true and the evidence of an accomplice must be construed with a certain degree of suspicion.
