CITY FIRE BRIGADE

SUPERINTENDENT’S REPORT

Six calls had been attended by the City Fire Brigade from November 21 to December 12, said the superintendent, Mr F. S. Simpson, in his report to the monthly meeting of the Invercargill Fire Board yesterday. The fire which occurred on Sunday in Mary street and resulted in the total destruction of an unoccupied dwelling built of wood had a good hold when discovered. . The brigade’s efforts were confined, in the early stages to saving the adjoining dwellings, one of which was burning freely on the outside wall. The dwelling on the other side suffered scorching and broken windows. The contents of both dwellings were practically unaffected.

Early morning tests for flow and inspection of fire plugs and indicators were still being carried out as weather and staff conditions allowed, and he had pleasure in reporting that his appeal to the public was having splendid results. Many plugs and indicators had been cleared and ‘growth cut back and he thanked all citizens who had assisted. | Seasonal greetings were exchanged between the chairman and members. There were present at the meeting: — Messrs W. G. Tait (chairman), A. Dix, R. R. Binney, A. Sharp and D. Harris.
