FINAL GALLOPS AT ELLERSLIE SHY AND JONATHAN GO WELL OVER A MILE (United Press Association) AUCKLAND, November 24. The chief feature of the final gallops for the Auckland meeting at Ellerslie this morning were attractive efforts over five furlongs by Pirate King, Surella and Tooley Street, seven furlongs by Kelly and a mile by Shy and Jonathan. The course proper, on which the poles were out 40 feet, was available, the going being perfect. The best effort over seven furlongs was credited to Kelly, who ran the distance in Imin 29 3-ssec. He traversed the first half mile in 50sec and was running on in great style at the finish. Silver Quex came home from the six furlong post in Imin 18 4-ssec, after running the first three in 39 l-ssec. She was assisted over the last five furlongs by Palmint and Leo Colossus, beating them home in Imin 4 l-ssec. Jonathan was clear of Fidelis with Philcourt and Mai de Mer further back at the conclusion of a mile in Imin 44 2- the last six furlongs being covered in Imin 18 2-ssec. Surella was too good for Trilliarch over five furlongs in Imin 2 2-ssec, the first two in 24 3-ssec, and Surella’s effort was impressive.

Shy registered a sound trial over a mile, which he completed in Imin 44 sec, the first half in 51sec. The Trimmer ran the last seven furlongs of Kis work in Imin 34 4-ssec. Tooley Street was responsible for a good trial over five furlongs which he completed in Imin 2 2-ssec. He ran the last half mile in 49 l-ssec and was doing his work well at the finish. The best trial over five furlongs was credited to Pirate King, who ran the

distance in Imin 1 3-ssec, the first two in 24 4-ssec. Birthday Boy, on the tan, finished several lengths ahead of Knight of Australia over a round in Imin 52 4-ssec The last six furlongs occupied Imin 23 2-ssec and the final half mile 56 2-ssec. It was a good workout.
