AUSTRALIAN RUGBY TOUR OF BRITAIN
The Australian Rugby Union team to tour Great Britain next year will be under the sole charge of a manager, who will have with him a male secretary, whose task will be to assist in coping with the detail work of the tour. A necessary qualification of the secretary will be that he be able to type. He will have his expenses paid, and will receive remuneration for occupying the position, says a Sydney writer. This is .a change from the previous method of sending an asistant manager.
The manager and secretary will be appointed by a committee comprised of the president of the New South Wales Rugby Union, the chairman of the management committe of. the union, the chairman of the council of the union, one member appointed by the Victorian Rugby Union, and one member by the Queensland Rugby Union. An allowance up to £7 a week will be made to the manager throughout the tour for entertainment and other items by the home unions. Trial matches are to take place next year to ensure that a first-rate team is chosen to represent the country.
The Australian playing uniform during the tour will be a dark green jersey, white shorts, and green and gold hooped stockings. It will cost the Australian Rugby Unions close on £2OOO to select (trial matches included) and outfit the team. What each state pays will depend on the number of representatives each gets into the team. On a rough estimate New South Wales will pay about £1250, and Victoria and Queensland about £350 each.
