DINERS TO PAY MORE FOR MEALS

SURCHARGE OF ONE PENNY IN WELLINGTON /

(United Press Association)

WELLINGTON, September 9. City workers and business people who take their meals in Wellington tea rooms and restaurants will be obliged after next Monday to pay one penny more for morning tea, afternoon tea, lunch or dinner than at present. This increase in the price of meals was announced today by city restaurants. At a meeting of the Wellington Tea Rooms, Restaurant and Refreshment Rooms Proprietors’ Association held recently, it was decided to impose a surcharge of one penny on meals to meet the increased cost of foodstuffs and higher wages and working costs brought about by the recent Tea Rooms and Restaurant Employees’ Award. It was decided to make the surcharge operative from September 12.
