THE WEATHER FAIR TO FINE

WELLINGTON, September 9. Following is the official weather forecast for Southland issued by the Meteorological Office, Wellington:— Winds light and variable, with east to north prevailing. Weather fair to fine. Mild day and cold night temperatures, with many frosts. Seas slight. Following is the Dominion forecast:— Weather cloudy to overcast and with passing showers at first in and east of the main ranges of the North Island and in the far north, but otherwise fair to fine. Temperatures

cold, with some frosts and morning

fogs. General Situation.—An anti-cyclone extends from the north Tasman across the South Island. A shallow depression covers the northern portion of the North Island, but is moving eastward. The pressure has fallen over southeastern Australia. Winds.—South to east prevailing, strong at first about Cook Strait and parts of the east coast of the North Island, but decreasing and otherwise light to moderate, becoming variable later in the South Island. Seas.—New Zealand waters, rough about Cook Strait and moderate to rather rough thence northward, but decreasing tomorrow, elsewhere slight to moderate; eastern Tasman Sea, light to moderate southerly to south-easterly winds, tending southerly later in the southern portion; seas moderate. The weather in Invercargill yesterday was fine and sunny. At one o’clock this morning the weather was fine and clear.
