STOLEN YACHT DRIVEN ASHORE

BOYS’ SEARCH FOR “PIRATE GOLD” (Received June 24, 10.40 p.m.) MEXICO CITY, June 24. The yacht stolen on May 26, after cruising 2000 miles, was driven into Banderas Bay, on the west coast of Mexico, during a storm. The three boys, who told the authorities that they intended to search for buried pirate gold, were detained.

On May 26 three boys, aged from 16 to 17, all high school students, stole a 52ft sail and auxiliary engine yacht belonging to a Santa Cruz business man, stocked it up with supplies of food and began a cruise of the Pacific which was designed to take them to Hong Kong by way of Honolulu. A coastguard cutter which set off in pursuit signalled a request for aeroplane assistance, and a fast airship under the command of a naval lieutenant joined in the search.

The owner was concerned only with the boys’ safety.
