DEER STALKERS FOUND IN HILLS
DEER SHOT FOR FOOD AND FLESH EATEN RAW (United Press Association) PALMERSTON NORTH, June 20. Arthur Regan and Hugh Bowler, two young deer stalkers who had been missing in the hills since Saturday, were brought out late tonight by searchers, none the worse for their experience, except that they were hungry and stiff with cold Their plight over the week-end was caused by the flooded state of the stream they were following, forcing them to turn back into the hills to seek another way out. They shot deer for food, eating the raw flesh and sticking their feet inside the carcasses overnight to keep them warm.
