SHORTAGE OF WATER AT BLUFF
FURTHER DROP IN LEVEL OF RESERVOIR The rain s» urgently needed at Bluff has not yet fallen and as the draw-off from the reservoir continues unrestricted the level of the water there has dropped to 10ft 7in, three inches below Saturday’s reading. The reservoir is now within two inches of the lowest level yet recorded. No restrictions have yet been applied, but if there is no improvement in the position today consideration will be given the matter at a meeting of the committee of supply) A proposal to tap the creeks in the area of 186 acres, on.the east side of Bluff Hill, which was recently acquired by the Bluff Harbour Board, the Bluff Borough Council and the Government is stated by the Bluff Harbour Board’s engineer (Mr D. E, S. Mason) to be now in hand. With the purchase of this section the -board now has water rights over all the area above the level of the reservoir. Surveys have been made, it was stated, and levels prove that it will be i«ssible to obtain water from the eastern domain and gravitate the flow to the reservoir. When this has been done and the new reservoir is completed it is believed there will be a water supply adequate to serve the whole town and to provide for an up-to-date sewerage system.
