ART INSTRUCTION EXPLAINED
ADDRESS BY MR T. H. JENKIN At the Winton District High School a practical demonstration on the teaching of art was given to the teachers of the Central District schools by Mr T. H. Jenkin of the Southland Technical College. There were 25 teachers present from the following schools: Winton, Lochiel, Waianiwa, Isla Bank, Limehills, Browns, East Limehills, Dipton, Otapiri, Fernhills and Heddon Bush. Also present were Mrs T. H. Jenkin and Miss Willcox, teacher of Domestic Science for the Winton school. By means of a colour chart and posters, Mr Jenkin showed the need for teaching the simple rules of colour harmony and for applying these to design in various forms. The compositipn of pictures was also dealt with and, finally, some practical guidance was given in illustrative drawing. Mr E. W. Morran (Limehills) on behalf of the teachers present expressed hearty appreciation of the talk given by the visitor. The vote of thanks was carried by acclamation. A vote of thanks was conveyed to the Winton staff on the motion of Mr J. F. Ewart (Waianiwa) for the excellent preparations made for the recent athletic meeting.
