LICENCE GRANTED TO MT COOK COMPANY

CONTRACT SERVICE FOR SOUTH ISLAND (United press Association) CHRISTCHURCH, February 17. After about four months’ negotiations, a transport licence has been granted the Mount Cook Tourist Company Ltd., to operate a contract service in tile South Island. The licence provides for routes operating from any point within a radius of 10 miles from Christchurch, Invercargill, Tirnaru, the Hermitage, and Queenstown to any other point in the South Island. The licensee also applied for the inclusion of the North Island, but the authorities held that sufficient services already operated in the North Island, both from Wellington and Auckland. “The whole idea of the authorities’ deliberations,” said Mr T. H. Langford, “has been to remove as many restrictions as possible on the services catering for overseas visitors.”
