LAUNCH SINKS AFTER EXPLOSION
MINOR BURNS SUFFERED BY MEMBER OF CREW
(United Press Association) NAPIER, February 17. John O. Tait, jun., of Napier, suffered minor bums, necessitating his removal to the Napier hospital and the remaining two of the crew minor injuries when the fishing launch River Nile ■caught fire and foundered near Cape Kidnappers today. The members* of the crew were rescued by the fishing launch Sea Hawk, but not till after they had spent 20 minutes in the water. , , . , It is understood that benzine from a drum on the bow of the vessel leaked into the cabin when Tait was using the primus stove to prepare a meal. A violent explosion followed, ripping out both the deck and the bottom of the boat. . j j John 0. Tait, sen., was trapped under the water by nets and ropes and, after diving twice, his son, despite ■ mjunes, brought him to the. surface, after which the rescuers arrived.
