THE WEATHER MODERATE TO WARM TEMPERATURES

(Special to The Times) WELLINGTON, February 17. Following is the official weather forecast for Southland issued by the Meteorological Office, Wellington: Light to fresh east to north-east wind. Weathef fine with moderate to warm temperatures. Seas moderate to rather rough. Following is the Dominion forecast:— Weather fair to fine in the western and southern portion of the South Island, elsewhere still dull and misty, with further rain in the North Island and scattered showers or drizzle in eastern districts of the South Island. Conditions improving slowly, however, tomorrow. Temperatures cool. General Situation.—An anti-cyclone is still centred to the south-east, and an area .of low pressure extends across northern New Zealand. Winds.—South-easterly in the Cook Strait area, but elsewhere easterly to north-easterly prevailing, strong in places north of Farewell Spit and Kaikoura, but otherwise light to moderate. Seas.—New Zealand waters, rather rough to rough in the Cook Strait area and on the east coast of the North Island, elsewhere slight to moderate; eastern Tasman Sea, moderate to fresh south-easterly winds in the northern portion, with rather rough seas, light to moderate east to north-easterly in the southern portion, with slight to moderate seas. The weather in Invercargill yesterday was fine and warm. The sun shone throughout the day and \ a light southeasterly wind was blowing. At one o’clock this morning the weather was fine, but cold with a strong easterly wind.
