CONTROL BY “WEALTHY INTERESTS” ALLEGED
Claims that the Press of New Zealand was not free, that it was controlled by wealthy interests and that it would “strangle” the Labour Government if it could, were made by the Minister of Mines (the Hon. P. C. Webb) m a public address at Nightcaps last evenm“The Press of this country is not free,” said Mr Webb, “it will strangle the Labour Government if it can. The Press is controlled by wealthy interests who think that the only way to prosperity is over the starved bodies of men, women and children. We think that the way to prosperity lies in increasing the purchasing power of the people.
