DROP IN OUTPUT OF COAL
WORK AT MINES AT OHAI REPORT TO MEETING OF RAILWAY BOARD “The output of coal since last meeting of the board has dropped by 1909 tons compared with the corresponding weeks of last year,” stated the report of the general manager of the Ohai Railway Board (Mr A. W. Rodger) to the monthly meeting of the board. “The stoppage of work at the Linton mine for four days and the weather may well account for the decrease. The total quantity of coal hauled over the board’s line for the expired portion of the financial year is now less by 7586 tons than for the corresponding period in 1936-37. I regret that circumstances have not permitted the inspector to examine and report upon the overhead bridge near Crawfords siding, as had been anticipated, and the matter must now remain in abeyance until after the holidays.” ! There were present:—Messrs L. S. Edmond (chairman), D. D. McDonald, W. Excell, E. Davis, G. Tinker, W. Crawford and G. Edie. ,<
The report of the traffic manager (Mr R. Donnelly) stated:— “The greate.' part of the time of the permanent way gang has been occupied since the last meeting in reconditioning private sidings. The remainder of the time has been taken up with routine work between Reeds and Nightcaps. After the New Year holidays, attention will be given to the sections between Birchwood and Reeds. The coal mines will close down after work tomorrow and will reopen on Tuesday, January 4, 1938. During the holiday period, the Leyland service will deal with light traffic offering, and will make the usual connections with Government trains.” It was decided to give £2O to the Far East Relief Fund. The chairman, Mr L. S. Edmond, extended seasonal greetings to members and the board’s staff. Mr W. Excell replied on behalf of the board and Mr Rodger on behalf of the staff. '
