FISHING BAGS
To The Editor Sir,—My fishing licence clearly says I may take 15 trout in any one day in the Southland acclimatization district, yet “Matuku” takes to task a party of four anglers who took less than six fish each a day for two days’ fishing in the' Oreti and Mararoa rivers. If any dry-fly fishennan wants good fishing I would advise him to come up here, as both the Oreti and Mararoa are full of good fish and a paltry 40 or 50 five-pounders will never be missed from either the rivers mentioned above. For a real day’s sport, let “Matuku” come up. I will gladly show him where the big fellows are; then we shall give him a fair dinkum try-out with a 3x or 4x cast and see how he gets on.—Yours, etc.,
C. G. MACAULEY. Mossburn, December 18, 1937. [This letter was referred to “Matuku,” who writes: “I thank your correspondent for his kind invitation and hope to take advantage of it shortly. I will be interested to fish a stream where a paltry 40 or 50 five-pounders will never be missed.”]
