A remit from the Edendale branch that it was desirable for each of the branches in Southland, as far as they felt able, to contribute towards providing more accommodation at the Waipiata sanatorium for patients as the need appeared to be great, will be sent to the Government. The feeling of the meeting was that this was the duty of the State and it was decided that a recommendation be sent to the Government urging it to provide ample accommodation. Another remit from the Edendale branch that the number of pupils in each dress-making class be reduced and the fee increased was deferred. Mrs Drake, the Dominion president, is expected to be at the February meeting. Arrangements for entertainment were left to the executive. A telegram was sent to Mrs W. H. Ward, of Lumsden, and Mrs Wilson, both of whom are in Wellington receiving the honour of officer of the Order of the British Empire. Mrs Russell reported that since July 31 help had been sent to 24 homes and quite as many more had asked fo~ assistance. In 17 of the homes to which help was sent there was sickness. Mrs Orr reported on the dress-making classes and Mrs Macintosh reported on the singing classes. The president asked all branches to collect experiences of pioneers for the February meeting for the Book of Pioneer Women. The Wyndham branch was congratulated on winning the McDougall trophy.
