METHOD OF BRANDING SHEEP SYSTEM CONSIDERED TO BE EFFICIENT Referring to a recent suggestion that consideration should be given to the adoption of an improved method of branding sheep, the provincial executive of the Farmers’ Union advised the Wyndham branch at its quarterly meeting that the sub-committee appointed to investigate the question was of the opinion that the system now in use was as near perfect as possible. The president (Mr E. Rabbidge) was chairman and there was a small attendance of members.

Advice was received from the Southland Provincial Executive about the proposal to compile and publish a book dealing with stock ailments, remedial recipes and other knowledge that would be of practical value to farmers. Members of the union who knew of any matter suitable for publication in the book were invited to submit it to the provincial secretary (Mr A. L. Adamson). It was decided to support the proposal. The provincial executive also wrote requesting that if any difficulty was experienced in obtaining farm labour advice should be sent to the provincial secretary, who would communicate with the district placement officer. The chairman said he had not heard of much trouble in the Wyndham district. BOWLING CLUB Not for many years have the Wyndham Bowling Club’s competitions been so keenly contested. A number of first and second-year players is prominently in the results. Results in the championship pairs, which this year are being played on the two-life system, are as follows:—D. N. A. Macpherson and G. C. Kerse beat A. Traynor and L. H. Harley; T. W. Burstall and W F. Bennetto beat E. J. Traynor and N. W. Stark; A. A. Wilson and H. Hunter beat F. Williams and A. H. Jones; A. A. Wilson and H. Hunter beat O. Traynor and L. H. Harley; E. J. Traynor and N. W. Stark beat F. Williams and A. H. Jones. O. Traynor and L. Harley, two comparative beginners, put up surprisingly good opposition to two such strong pairs as Macpherson and Kerse and Wilson and Hunter. In each match they were beaten only by a single point. Traynor is a very promising lead, and Harley varied his play well and brought off several firm shots in critical positions. T. K. Clarke and G. C. Kerse (scr) lead in Section 1 of the handicap doubles, Laving had two wins and a loss. In Section 11, G. D. Bogue and E. J. Traynor (plus 2) are leading with two wins and two losses. Four wins and no losses give C. E. Davey a commanding position in Section 1 of the handicap singles, and two players are equal in the second section, N. W. Stark (scr) and T. W. Burstall, each having had four wins and two losses.
