WENDONSIDE

SCHOOL JUBILEE MEETING OF COMMITTEE The secretary of the Wendonside School Jubilee Committee (Mr H. Collins), reported at a meeting of the committee that the response from former pupils and friends could be considered very satisfactory. The chairman of the sports* committee submitted a programme of track and field events, competitions and novelties, which was approved. SCHOOL COMMITTEE A meeting of the Wendonside School Committee was held in the hall. The head teacher reported that the roll number was 45, and the attendance was excellent. It was decided to install electric light in the school for the radio set and tor the jubilee. It was reported that in the Balfour Lime Company’s recent essay competitions the school was very successful, Lily Collins gaining first place and Harold Collins and Josephine Cooper second places, equal, for essays on the chemical side and Dorothy Hurley second for an essay on quarrying and crushing. The school thus won four of the eight prizes out of a total of 75 entries.
