RIVERTON

CREWS TRAINING FOR REGATTA SELECTION OF MEMBERS (By CRAB) Members of the Riverton Rowing Club have starter! three weeks’ training for the Riverton regatta. The centenary celebrations have, no doubt, provided an impetus. The gales have stopped and the crews are taking every advantage of the fine weather. Crews can be seen training on the river practically every evening until 9.30 p.m. The B Youths’ crew is very light, but this disadvantage is balanced by its keenness.

Undex- the coaching of Mr J. Frew, the A Youths’ crew is steadily improving, both in style and ability. The A Maiden crew is at a disadvantage this season, being able to train on the water only three nights a week. It is unfortunate that members of the crew are unable to maintain consistent training, as they are a well-balanced, solid crew, and with two additional nights of training for the next three weeks, would become formidable.

The B Maiden crew is the same as the youths’ crew last year, with one exception. Solid training will be necessary if this crew is to show superiority on Regatta Day. The junior crew cannot be accused of neglecting training. The senior crew has been chosen, and it is too early to predict its chances. However, all the members are experienced rowers. N. Hillis (s) is a solid oarsman, A. Beer (3) and J. Agnew have proved their ability at many previous regattas and the bow, H. Allison, is also an experienced rower. The following regatta crews have been selected to represent the Riverton Rowing Club at the regatta to be held on Boxing Day:— Senior Four.—N. Hills (s), A. Beer, J. Agnew and H. Allison.
