LABOUR FAILS IN NEW SOUTH WALES

MUNICIPAL AND SHIRE COUNCIL ELECTIONS SYDNEY, December 6. The triennial elections of the municipal and shire councils were held throughout New South Wales on Saturday. Most of the candidates returned were non-political. The New South Wales executive of the Australian Labour Party made an effort to capture many of the councils, but the results disclose that it again failed, holding a majority in only seven of the metropolitan industrial centres. A feature of the metropolitan contests was the defeat at Glebe of 12 Australian Labour Party candidates, including four retiring aidermen, by a team endorsed by the Glebe Labour League. Polling in five wards of the city takes place today.
