SUCCESSFUL SIRE PHILAMOR’S YOUTHFUL WINNER (By SIR MODRED) A double success to a two-year-old son is the latest achievement to go down to the credit of the Mataura owned sire Philamor. The colt in question racing as Rarotonga (halfbrother to Leisure) was responsible for winning a two-year-old event on each day of the recent Feilding Jockey Club’s meeting. In three previous starts he ran third in his second engagement to Taurangi and Rakahanga in the Taita Handicap at the Wellington Racing Club’s recent meeting, and he can therefore be accepted as a promising youthful racehorse and a credit to the Chimes Lodge sire.

Racing in the interests of one of his breeders, Mr D. P. Clark, Rarotonga is by Philamor (imp. and son of Son-in-Law from Love Oil) from Spare Moment, by Merry Moment (imp.) from Melologue, by Advance, by Vanguard, by Traducer, and a noted racehorse) from Epilogue, by King Cole from Rosalind, by Albany from Red Rose (a very successful brood mare with descendants in Southland), by Traducer (imp.) from Moss Rose. On the maternal side of his pedigree the youngster sports many of the oldest and most enduring of New Zealand’s early sires and dams and this fact lends additional interest to the fact that he is the son of an Eastern District sire.
