SEPARATE PROVINCE DESIRED

POVERTY BAY AND EAST COAST DISTRICT (United Press Association) GISBORNE, October 19. The Gisborne Chamber of Commerce today discussed the question of security of provincial status for the Poverty Bay and East Coast district. It was pointed out that the district had been declared a separate province for the centennial celebrations and membeis urged that an effort be made to have this status retained. Mr H. H. De Costa expressed the opinion that it would be best to break away from the Auckland province. It would be the best thing Poverty Bay could do. It was decided to write to the Min - ister of Internal Affairs (the Hon. W. E. Parry) to ascertain what steps should be taken for the establishment of a separate province for Poverty Bay and the East Coast.
