NIGHTCAPS

BOWLING CLUB MEETING OF WOMEN MEMBERS At a meeting of women members of the Nightcaps Bowling Club, Mrs W. Excell presided. Congratulations were extended to Mrs Excell upon her election as president of the Southland Women’s Bowling Centre. Mrs G. Wood, winner of the championship singles, was presented with the silver cup and miniature, donated bv Mrs Gold, Balclutha. Mrs Excel!, runner-up, was presented with a vase. Both recipients replied. The following officers were elected:— President, Mrs W. Excell, (re-elected); secretary, Mrs B. Rushton. It was, decided to increase the women’s subscription to the club from 5/- to 6/-. AMALAGAMATION OF SCHOOLS As from early in October, the Opio school will be amalgamated with the Nightcaps District High School. The successful tenderer for the conveyance of the Opio district pupils, to the Nightcaps school is Mr G. McMcLellan, storekeeper, Nightcaps. SWIMMING POOL There was practically no swimming in the pool, last season, because of the prevailing epidemic, but this season should be a lengthy and successful one. The pool and surroundings have been improved and beautified and when the willows take on their summer foliage a fine scene will be presented. PERSONAL Messrs G. Duggan, Chief Inspector ot Mines and J. Hughes, Inspector for Otago and Southland, are at present in the district Mr J. Mason, of the Balclutha Post Office, is at present visiting Nightcaps.
