BOYS’ BATTALION BAND

VISIT TO BORSTAL INSTITUTION The Boy’s Battalion Band visited the Borstal Institution on Saturday evening and entertained the inmates to a bright entertainment. The programme was as follows, the conductor being Mr A. Mac Master: Hymn, “Silent Night,” the band: March, “Ingomar,” the band; song, “Without a Song,” Corporal Warren Robertson; encore, “Rainbow on the River,” Corporal Warren Robertson; sword dance, Miss Donaldson’s pupils; selection, “Scotia,” the band; comet solo, “Love’s Old Sweet Song,” Mr W. Sinclair; song, “Come up to the Isle,” Mr J. Hewton; encore, “Hail Caledonia,” Mr J. Hewton; baritone solo “An Elegy,” Mr J. McClure; Highland fling, Miss Donaldson’s pupils, accompanied by Piper R. Donaldson; cornet dufet, “List to the Convent Bells,” Doris Miller and Nell Fox; Hymn, “Deep Harmony,” the band; Highland dance “Seann Triubhas,” Miss Troon; accompanist, Piper R. Donaldson; march. “Invercargill,” the band. The accompanistes were Mrs A. Cook and Miss

G. Hewton. The superintendent (Mr R. W. Arnold) thanked the performers on behalf of the inmates and said that although it was only a short time since he heard the band, he had noticed an improvement in its play. Mr Mac Master replied on behalf of visiting entertainers, and said it was encouraging to know that the improvement in the band was noticeable.
