DUNEDIN LISTENERS’ LEAGUE

PERMISSION TO ADVERTISE MEETING REFUSED (United Press Association) DUNEDIN, June 17. The secretary of the Dunedin Listeners’ League telegraphed to the acting Minister of Broadcasting (the Hon. F. Jones) for permission to advertise from 4YA and the B stations the league’s annual meeting but Mr Jones replied that it was not possible to comply with the request as the transmission of advertisements from stations was prohibited under the provisions of the Act last year. The secretary replied that the section of the Act only prohibits advertising for pecuniary benefit. This meeting was not for the pecuniary benefit of anyone and was only a notice of the meeting. The Minister answered: “Notwithstanding your views it is not considered suitable.”
