THE HOSPITAL BOARD

MONTHLY MEETING MEDICAL REPORTS Reports of medical superintendents and matrons of hospitals in the Southland Hospital Board’s district were received by the board at its monthly meeting yesterday. Mr T. Golden (chairman) presided. There were present:—Messrs W. Clark, W. Grieve, J. S. A. McDougall, J. W. Miller, A. T. Newman, John Miller, W. M. Norman, F. F. Trapski, A. McKenzie and Dr J. A. Pottinger. One hundred and ninety-four patients were admitted to the Southland Hospital and 167 were discharged during the month of May, stated the report of the medical superintendent (Dr L. C. McNickle). Eight patients had died during the month and 110 patients remained in the hospital at May 31. A total of 285 patients had been treated during the month and the average number of patients a day was 102.35. The individual days’ stay was 11.13. The matron at the Southland Hospital (Miss J. Ross) acknowledged the following gifts for the month: Toe H, magazines; Red Cross Society, fruit; Aero Club, magazines; Mrs Jennings, books; Mrs Fraser, flowers; Mrs Quinn, 100 balloons; Mrs O’Neill, books; the Misses Murphy, magazines; Mr Geddes, The Weekly News; Mr Acton, books; Mr Smith, magazines; “A friend,” books; “A friend,” books. THE GORE HOSPITAL The medical superintendent of the Gore Hospital (Dr J. E. Rogers) reported that 50 patients had been admitted to the hospital during May. The number under treatment during the month was 76 and 48 patients had been discharged and two had died during the month. At June 1, 26 patients remained in the hospital. There had been 25 operations and 44 attendances of out-patients during the month. The medical superintendent at the Lake County Hospital (Dr W H. Anderson) reported that 23 patients had been treated during May. Thirteen had been discharged and one had died during the month. At June 1 nine patients remained in the hospital. There were seven operations and three out-patient attendances during the month. The matron of the Invercargill Infirmary (Miss C. M. Fitzgibbon) reported that 115 patients had been under treatment during May. Thirteen had been discharged and five had died during the month. At June 1, 97 patients remained in the hospital. Donations had been received during the month from the Toe H and “a friend.”
