DANGEROUS RAILWAY CROSSINGS
£ 200,000 TO BE EXPENDED ON ELIMINATION (United Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH, June 16. “An amount of £200,000 has been allocated by the Main Highways Board for expenditure in the elimination or improvement of dangerous railway crossings and I think it will be found in future that the money has been well spent,” contended Mr C. J. Talbot, a member of the board when addressing a meeting in the city. “The expenditure of thousands of pounds will be justified if it results in the saving of human lives.” In his opinion, overhead bridges or subways were better and safer, although they were not always cheaper.
