FREE KINDERGARTENS
SALE OF PRODUCE AND GOODS The council and committees of the Invercargill free kindergartens held a sale of produce and fancy goods yesterday afternoon in St. John’s Hall, Tay street The sale was opened by the Mayor (Mr John Miller). The competitions were judged by Lady Anderson, Mrs J. D. Campbell and Mrs J. A. Lush, and prizes for the best stalls were awarded as follows: Kew 1, Gala street 2. Other stalls were held by Wharepuna, Ranui and the Kindergarten Council. The result of the baking competition was as follows: Butter sponge, Miss H. Birss (Council); plain sponge, Mrs S. Leitch (Ranui); oven scones, Mrs J. Lyall (Kew); girdle scones, Mrs F. McKillop (Wharepuna); pikelets, Mrs A. Mulligan (Gala street); I four varieties of small cakes, Mrs J. Holland (Wharepuna). During the afternoon a small demonstration was given by the children of each kindergarten.
