Bluff Notes

Mrs J. Allen, Anderson’s Bay, Dunedin, who has been on an extended visit to her mother, Mrs D. Gunn, Lee street, returned to Dunedin yesterday. The Misses Q. and D. Stalker, Bann street, are spending the week-end at Mataura. Mrs E. Benfell, Bann street, who has been visiting Christchurch, has returned home. Miss Jean Gunn, Invercargill, is the guest of Miss Mary Lindquist, Liffey street, for the week-end. Miss Casey, Bann street, was hostess at bridge on Thursday evening. Mr and Mrs W. Calder, Shannon street, are spending a few days in Mataura. Miss Pamela Edwards, Barrow street, who has been spending a holiday in Christchurch, returned to Bluff during the week.

Mrs Taylor, Wellington, who has been the guest of her mother, Mrs S. Cooper, Henderson street, for the past two months, has returned home. Guests at the Club Hotel during the week included:—Mrs F. Brosnan (Dunedin), Mr A. Fletcher (Auckland), Mr McGregor (Dunedin), Mr and Mrs G. Inwood (Christchurch), Mr Powley (Wellington), Mr and Mrs T. Munro, and Mr and Mrs W. Latslie (Dunedin). The members of the Foveaux Club were the guests of the officers and engineers of the Rangitane at a dance in Barber’s Hall on Thursday evening. The hall was decorated with coloured lights, streamers, flags and greenery, and the dance music was played by the ship’s orchestra. McKenzie, and the Misses Nancy Macdonald, Pamela and Dorothy Edwards, Jen Connolly, Grace Ross, Nancy Schofield, Gardia Fowler, Charlotte Batchelor, Grace Johnston, Nancy

Metzger, Ivy and Clover Lindsay, Greta Wishart, Mavis Wares, Florence Parkinson, Hoffman, Dorothy and Mavis Urwin, Lorna Dawson and Enid Crocket; Messrs J. and D. Hamilton, J. Beaton, J. Dixon, T. D. O’Toole, H. Burke, Thomas, A. Riley and J. Copp. Novel dance competitions were won by Mr and Mrs W. F. Cameron and Miss L. Dawson and her partner. During the evening Miss Charlotte Batchelor sang several songs. A pleasant social afternoon was held in Barber’s hall on Wednesday afternoon by the members of the Methodist Church to welcome the Rev. Mr Knowles-Smith and Mrs KnowlesSmith to Bluff. There was a large attendance, including many representatives from other churches in the township. During the afternoon a short programme of music was contributed to by the following:—Mrs J. Walker and Miss M. McKenzie (pianoforte duet), Mrs Edward Parsons (song), Nirs Jack Walker and Mrs M.
