Cunningham, Castle Downs, Dipton. Miss Mary Enright, lady editor of The Press, Christchurch, passed through Invercargill last evening on her way to Queenstown. Miss Linda Macdonald returns north by the express today after a brief visit to her parents, Mr and Mrs H. Macdonald, Herbert street. The engagement is announced of Mae, only daughter of Mrs E. Sawers, Thames street, to William, eldest son of Mr and Mrs J. H. Fulton, Earn street. The Misses Pauline Anderson, Mavis Boyce, Constance Chaplin, Joyce Davies, Jenny Woods and Dorothy Willett leave today for Dunedin for the Russian Ballet. The engagement is announced of Mona, younger daughter of Mr and Mrs T. A. Menzies, Lumsden, to Frank, only son of Mr and Mrs W. J. Thomas, of Christchurch. Visitors to Dunedin this week-end for the Russian Ballet will include Mrs R. N. Todd and Miss Catherine Todd (Avenal), Mrs A. le H. Hoyles and the Misses Patricia aqd Elizabeth Hoyles (Herbert street), Mrs O. J. Yule (Beatrice street), Mrs G. B. Orbell (Avenal street) and Mrs Robert Stout (Layard street). The Bridge Circle of St. Catherine’s Ex-pupils Association met at the Rosewood Lounge on Wednesday, April 21, when ten tables were at play. The highest scores were:—Contract, Miss B. O’Connor; auction, Mrs C. Murfitt; hidden number, Miss W. Murray. Those present were Mesdames E. C. Scully, N. Grace, W. W. Millar, H. Grace, J. M. Wilson, A. H. Fitzgerald, J. H. Fulton, C. The Arts and Crafts Circle of the Southland Women’s Club held its opening afternoon on Wednesday. The president of the club, Mrs R. J. Gilmour, welcomed the members and declared the season open. Miss Owen, of the Southland Girls’ High School, gave an interesting address on handcrafts, which she demonstrated with various kinds of hand work. The members present were the guests of the chairwoman of the circle, Mrs D. Cochrane, at afternoon tea. Those present were Mesdames R. J. Gilmour, D. Cochrane, H. H. Petrie, R. N. Todd, C. F. Hackworth, Hannah, G. F. C. Tanner, A. H. J. Wyatt, Stanley Brown, E. K. Mills, J. G. Macdonald, Murray Wilson, A. Derbie, E. J. Mills, J. Hargest, L. C. Smith, R. Brownlie, S. E. Wootton, C. Longuet, James Robertson, H. H. Royds, H. R. Kingsland, N. Earl, T. A. Nicholson, H. W. Slater, H. Parker, W. G. Tait, A. C. Dickens; Misses C. McLeod, J. E. McLeod, Mehaffey, M. White, O. Rein, Nicol, N. Nicholson and Stables. Mrs D. Young, Hedgehope, was hostess at a party given in honour of Miss C. McDonald, who is shortly to be married. Competitions and musical items were given during the afternoon, Mesdames Crockett and Leebody being the competition winners. Piano solos were palyed by Misses S. Evans and O. Sanderson, and songs were sung by Mrs Kerr. On behalf of those present, Mrs Young asked Miss McDonald to accept a large number of presents with good wishes for her future. Mrs Crockett endorsed the’previous speaker’s remarks. Miss McDonald replied. Mrs Leebody thanked Mrs D. Young for her hospitality. Those present were Mesdames D. Young, J. Sanderson, A. McKay, W.
