THE ST. ANDREW’S SOCIETY
PROGRAMME BY OTAUTAU PARTY The programme for the monthly gathering of the St. Andrew’s Scottish Society of Southland in Smith’s Hall last evening was provided by a strong party of members of the Otautau branch of the society. Headed by Chief G. Low, they were piped into the hall and welcomed by Chief J. L. McG. Watson, who expressed the pleasure with which the Invercargill members always received parties from Otautau and other branches and the enjoyment which they expected to obtain from the evening’s programme. Items given during the evening were as follows:—Songs, Miss M. Campbell, “Blue-bells of Scotland” and “Jock o’ Hazeldine”; Mrs F. L. Smith, “Robin Adair” and “The Auld Hoose”; Mr W. R. Ireland, “The Rowan Tree” and “Bonny Dundee”; Mrs King, “There’s a Wee Hoose Among the Heather”; Messrs W. Hogg, “Hail Caledonia,” “Bonny Mary of Argyle” and “Blue Bonnets over the Border”; A. Henderson, “Inverary” and “Just Like Being At Hame”; A. Campbell, “My Ain Wee Hoose” and “Ye Banks and Braes”; R. Liddell, “Coronach” and “The SergeantMajor on Parade”; and A. Coulter and Miss A. McCulloch, monologues, Miss Lily Maxwell, recitations, “Owre We Jock” and “That Beats All”; Miss Nancy Maxwell, sword dance and Highland Fling, and Miss Nanie McLeod, Highland Fling and Seann Truibhais. The programme was given an excellent reception, and the visitors were congratulated on their talent by Chief Watson and Mr John Miller. The remainder of a highly successful evening was devoted to dancing to music supplied by the Green Valley Orchestra, which had come in from Otautau with the visiting party.
