Dipton BADMINTON CLUB

The annual meeting of the Dipton Badminton Club was held in the public hall. The following members were present: Mrs Whitaker, Misses G. Caird, G. Stewart, O. and G. Taylor, Elva and Eula Ewen, E. McDonald, Messrs D. Shand and R. Colyer. The balance-sheet showed a small credit balance.

The following officers were appointed for the ensuing year:—President, Miss Eula Ewen; vice-presidents, Mesdames E. E. Stewart, L. Whitaker, Messrs D. McCurdy, J. Watt, J. Colyer, L. Whitaker and D. Shand; secretary and treasurer, Miss E. McDonald; committee, Misses G. Stewart, G. Caird, 0. and G. Taylor and R. Watt. Opening night was fixed for Thursday, April 22. BASKETBALL The official opening of the Dipton Basketball Club was held at the recreation grounds. A friendly match was played between the A and B team after which afternoon tea was served. During the afternoon a short meeting was held when the following stall-holders were appointed for the forthcoming bazaar: Plain and fancy, Mesdames J. Cavanagh and L. Whitaker; sweet stall, Misses E. Milligan, G Craig and M. McKenzie; produce, Mrs J. Giles and Miss E. Nelson; bran tub, Misses D. Goble and J. McKenzie; competitions, Misses Elva Ewen, G. Stewart, M. Finlayson, G. Caird and I. O’Callaghan; cake stall, Mesdames H Ross and G. Martin; tea rooms, Mesdames J. S. McDonald, T. Gerrard, M. Palmer and M. Martin. The following were nominated as selectors: Mesdames Martin, Cavanagh and G. Stewart. PLUNKET SOCIETY Mrs D. Murray Menzies presided at the annual meeting of the Dipton subbranch of the Plunket Society. The president made reference to the loss sustained by Mrs C. McDonald, through the death of her father. Members stood in silence as a mark of respect. District Nurse White was present at the meeting and gave an interesting talk on- the care of the teeth which was greatly appreciated. Mrs Murray Menzies read an interesting paper on Plunket work. The election of officers resulted: President, Mrs Murray Menzies (reelected); vice-presidents. Mesdames H. Shand. A. Lindsay and W. Sinclair (reelected) and D. McCurdy; secretary and treasurer, Miss K. Shand (re-elected); delegates to the Central executive, Mesdames Murray Menzies and H. Shand (re-elected). The nurse’s annual report for the year ended March 31 last reported 24 district visits. 77 home visits, 110 adult and 93 infant and 38 children attendances at the rooms, a total of 241; 11 new babies. 7 ante-natal visits. The general health of the babies had been satisfactory. Votes of thanks were accorded Mrs Murray Menzies and Nurse White.
