WOMEN’S HOCKEY

EXECUTIVE MEETING OF ASSOCIATION OPENING DAY ON MAY 1 A meeting of the management committee of the Southland Women’s Hockey Association. was held last evening, Mr J. H. Holland presiding over a good attendance of members. May 1 was decided on for the opening of the season.

An offer by Mr Dillon, of Balfour, to donate two hockey nets was accepted. It was stated that the nets which the association owned were rapidly deteriorating and the cost of new nets would be prohibitive. Advice of the allocation of grounds was received from the Invercargill City Council, one ground at Doon street and one at Queen’s Park being allotted. It was decided that the council be advised that the Doon street ground would not be required. Appointment of Committees

The appointment of committees was made as follows:—

Emergency.—Messrs J. H. Holland and A. St. C. McGregor and Miss B. Turner (secretary). Postponement.—Messrs W. R. Curwin, W. Patrick and L. Holmes. Draw—Miss M. Watson, Mrs J. H. Holland and Miss Blakie. Grounds.—Messrs W. R. Curwin, P. Bell and J. H. Holland. Selection. —Mr Holmes. The appointment of a coach was held over in the meantime. The draw was arranged as follows (all games to be played on the Queen’s Park No. 2 ground):— Saturday, May 1.—1.45 p.m., Technical v. Ex-High; 3 p.m., Union v. Collegiate. . Saturday, May 8.—1.45 p.m., Technical v. Union; 3 p.m., Collegiate v. ExHigh. . Saturday, May 22.—1.45 p.m., Technical v. Collegiate; 3 p.m., Ex-High v. Union.
