Makarewa WOMEN’S DIVISION
There was a fair attendance of members .at the annual meeting of the Makarewa branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union. Mrs McDowell presided. A motion of sympathy was passed to the Wilson family in a recent bereavement. The best bloom competition was won by Mrs George. The dressing table novelty was’won by Mrs Williams. The president, Mrs McDowell, in moving the adoption of the annual report and balance-sheet, said the meetings had been well attended and the interest in the Women’s Division well maintained. During the year the branch was favoured by a visit from the provincial president, Mrs Mclntosh, and her talk was enjoyed by members present. Their fourth birthday proved a success and was well attended by members and visitors from nearby branches. The flower show was held in February and the interest was well maintained, there being good entries and a good attendance, in spite of the adverse weather conditions. During the year the Farmers’ Union had helped financially by holding a social evening. Mrs Field, treasurer, in submitting her report said the year had been quite good financially and there was still a satisfactory balance. The prizes for the year resulted as follows:—Best Bloom: Mrs Kidd. Competitions (most points): Mrs Kidd 1, Mrs Wright 2, Mrs Potts 3. The following office-bearers were elected for the ensuing year:—President, Mrs McDowell (re-elected); secretary, Mrs McDougall; treasurer, Mrs Field; vice-presidents, Mesdames Burns, Clark, Wilson, Watt and Wright; executive members, Mesdames Wilson and Wright; advisory members, Mesdames McKenzie and Watt; committee, Mesdames George Hermann, Dawson, Kidd, Watson, Allen, Neas, Potts, Jones and Dooley. The hostesses were Mesdames Watt and Burns.
