Winton OPENING OF GOLF CLUB

On Saturday afternoon the Winton golf links were officially opened for the 1937 season, when a large number of local club members and visiting players took part in mixed foursome games over nine holes. The weather was brilliantly fine. At afternoon tea, the president, Dr P. Gow, welcomed visitors, and remarked that the big attendance for so early in the season showed that the course would be more popular than ever this year. It was particularly pleasing to see so many new members. The committee wished to express its thanks to the members whose work in clearing the fairways and setting up new flags had made such an. early start possible. Mr Giles, of the Ohai Golf Club, replied on behalf of the visiting golfers, paying a compliment to the Winton Club on the excellent state of the greens.
