ATLANTIC TROPHY NOT ACCEPTED
OWNERS OF THE QUEEN MARY,
(United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright.) (Rec. 11.35 p.m.) London, October 20. The Cunard White Star Company announces that though the Queen Mary won the Blue Riband of the Atlantic the company does not want the Hales Cup which goes with it. “If the cup were offered the company would feel obliged to refuse it,” says the announcement. The Daily Herald says that it is known that the view of Sir Percy Bates, chairman of the company, is that a trophy set up for international competition introduces an undesirable element into the operation of ocean steamship services.
