NEW LINER FOR INDIAN SERVICE
CITY OF BENARES MAKES TRIAL PASSAGE. (British Official Wireless). (Rec. 5.5 p.m.) Rugby, October 19. The new liner City of Benares, specially built for the joint service of the City and Hall Lines between the United Kingdom and India, made a passage from the Clyde to the Mersey. She was well tested in weather which at times rose to gale force. The City of Benares, a two-funnelled coal burner, has accommodation for a limited number of passengers and a considerable amount of cargo. The facilities provided for the passengers, of whom 250 will be catered for, include an open swimming-bath.
