Nightcaps CRICKET

OPENING OF SEASON The weather was fine for the opening cricket game of the season at Nightcaps. The players were given a try out against W. R. Patrick’s XI, which was led by R. McKenzie. At the conclusion of the game Mr McKenzie thanked the Nightcaps Club for its hospitality and Mr O. V. Berry spoke on behalf of the Nightcaps Club. The visitors won on one innings by a small margin. McKenzie and Robinson knocked up 57 of the town team’s 91 runs, and Allen (16) and Baird (16) were the chief scorers for Nightcaps. The scores were:— W. R. PATRICK’S XI. At the first birthday party ,of the Nightcaps troop of the Girl Guides, the attendance of Guides, visiting Guides and parents was very large. The District Commissioner, Mrs Walden, of Riverton, was present The social evening was taken up with games and vocal items and the Nightcaps troop presented a playette. A birthday cake given by a supporter was cut by the District Commissioner, and the candle was lit by the oldest Guide and blown out by the youngest. Pianoforte solos were contributed by Guides Margaret Excell, Melda Laidlaw and E. Nicholson, and Edna Tinker gave a Highland dance. The function concluded with all present joining in a campfire. Captain V. McKenzie thanked the committee members and parents for their splendid support.
