Tuatapere FOOTBALL CLUB

ANNUAL CONCERT Lawson’s Hall was filled by an appreciative audience when the Waiau footballers held their annual conceit. The chairman (Mr G. E. _ Charlton) thanked the public for turning out m such large numbers and read a telegram from Mr E. G. Porter, a former club captain. ■ , x Mr G. E. Charlton presented.two cups, donated by Mr Porter, for the most improved players in both grades. The cups were won by L. Charlton, senior grade, and J. Bevan, junior grade. Two medals donated by Mr D. McLeod were presented to D. Jenkins, senior grade, and H. Jackson, junior grade. At the conclusion of the concert, Mr J. Walker, on behalf of the club, presented Mr H. McDonald with a gold watch in recognition of his assistance during the preparation for the concerts. The following was the programme :— Opening choruses, company, “Road to Mandalay” and “Gentlemen, the King ; playette, “Misfortune”; song, Mr M. Te Au; Local Scandals, company; song, Mr Smith; local impersonations, company; playette, “Proverbs”; “Pinto Pete and his Ranch Friends,” company; song, Mr Te Au; playette, “Best Friends”; play, “What’s in a Name”; song, Mr Smith; playette, “Scene in Woolworths,” a story without words; playette, “Talkies”; old timers’ team song and finale, company. The concert was followed by a dance, music being played by Messrs H. Ackers and S. Butcher. Extras were played by Miss D. O’Brien. Mr J. C. Beer was master of ceremonies. THE HALF-HOLIDAY. The Tuatapere shop keepers have decided to observe Saturday as a halfholiday, beginning from November 7. 1.0.0. F. LODGE. The annual installation of Lodge Waiau No. 76 was held in Lodge Hall, Tuatapere. There was a record attendance of brethren, besides visitors from Royal Oak (Drummond), Aparima Lodge (Otautau), Wallace (Riverton), Kennington and Papotanui (Clinton). The installation ceremony was conducted by D.D.G. Master Bro. D. Brown, assisted by D.D.G. Marshal Bro. J. Lindsay, D.D.G. Secretary Bro. G. Stewart, D.D.G. Treasurer Bro. D. C. Sutherland, D.D.G. Chaplain Bro. Taylor, D.D.G. Warden Bro. C. McKenzie and D.D.G. Guardian Bro. Jones. The following brethren were installed in their respective chairs: P.G. Bro. J. Bennett, N.G. Bro. A. J. Watson, V.G. Bro. D. Rodgers, Treasurer Bro. C. Chamberlain, Secretary Bro. T. Ballantyne, Warden Bro. W. Baldwin, Conductor Bro. H. Bates, Chaplain Bro. C. Taylor, R.S.N.S. Bro. B. Bennett, L.S.N.S. Bro. D. Beer, R.S.V.G. Bro. J. A. Forde, T.S.V.G. Bro. D. Higgins, R.S.S. Bro. D. Jenkins, L.S.S. Bro. B. Mouat, I.G. Bro. C. Higgins and O.G. Bro. T. Bennett. At the close of the meeting a Past Grand meeting was held, over which D. Bro. Brown presided. It was decided to hold a competition on the “Secret Word” at the next meeting of Past Grand.

A social hour was spent, during which the Waiau Lodge was presented with the Initiation Competition Cup. D.D.G.M. Bro. Brown, in presenting the cup, congratulated the Waiau Lodge and complimented it on the very high standard to which it had raised the initiation work. N.G. Bro. J. Bennett accepted the cup on behalf of the team, which consisted of P.G. Bro. T. Bennett, N.G. Bro. J. Bennett, V.G. Bro. A. J. Watson, Warden Bro. D. Rodgers, Conductor Bro. W. Baldwin, R.S.S. Bro.
