TROPICAL STORM
HURRICANE IN FLORIDA. EIGHT LIVES LOST. (United Press Assn—Telegraph Copyright.) (Rec. 9.5 p.m.) Miami, November 4. A tropical hurricane with a wind reaching a velocity exceeding 100 miles an hour swept from the Bahamas in a south-westerly direction across the lower Florida peninsula to-day, causing a number of casualties and much property damage here. Possibly the hurricane was more disastrous in Florida Keys, with which area communications are disrupted. The full force of the gale hit Miami Beach and Palm Beach in the middle of the afternoon. It is reported that eight were killed in Miami, mostly from crumbling buildings. Several coastwise liners were forced to seek shelter. One craft, which was not immediately identified, fired distress signals a mile off the exclusive resort section of Miami Beach.
